Torn Lobe Repair
Reconstruction of a lobe torn partially or completely through — restoring a smooth, natural edge.

Torn, stretched, or gauged earlobes are more common than you might think — and more easily repaired. Dr. Elan B. Singer, a board-certified plastic surgeon, restores the natural shape of the earlobe under local anesthesia, in a single comfortable visit at our Upper West Side studio.

About
Ear lobe repair is a small procedure with an outsized effect on confidence. Whether the lobe has torn through from a heavy earring, stretched gradually over years, or been gauged and since outgrown, Dr. Singer reconstructs the lobe's natural contour with fine, layered suturing. The procedure takes under an hour under local anesthesia — and once healed, ears can usually be re-pierced.
Earlobes are delicate. A caught earring can tear a piercing through the edge of the lobe; years of heavy earrings can elongate the piercing into a slit; gauged lobes may no longer reflect how you want to present yourself.
Each of these is repaired the same way in principle: the damaged edges are precisely freshened and the lobe is rebuilt layer by layer, restoring a smooth, natural shape.
Ear lobe repair is often treated as a minor procedure — and in experienced hands it is quick and comfortable. But the difference between an adequate repair and an invisible one is surgical technique.
Dr. Singer is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and trained in reconstructive surgery at Mount Sinai, with fellowship training in aesthetic surgery. The same precision he brings to facial surgery goes into every repair.
Most clients' first question is when they can wear earrings again. Once the repair has fully healed — typically around six to eight weeks — the lobe can usually be re-pierced, placed slightly away from the repair line.
Dr. Singer will give you clear guidance at your follow-up, so your re-piercing is timed and positioned for the best long-term result.
